Checkpointing Models for Tasks with Widely Different Processing Times

چکیده

A server subject to random breakdowns and repairs offers services incoming jobs whose lengths are highly variable. checkpointing policy aiming protect against possibly lengthy recovery periods is in operation. The problem of how choose a interval order optimize performance addressed by analysing general queueing model which includes breakdowns, repairs, back-ups recoveries. Exact solutions obtained under both Markovian non-Markovian assumptions. Numerical experiments illustrate the conditions where checkpoints useful they not, former case, quantify achievable benefits.

Checkpointing strategy for multiple real-time tasks

We analyze checkpointing strategy for multiple realtime tasks with deadlines. Real-time tasks usually have deadlines associated with them. For multiple real-time tasks, checkpointing strategy considering deadlines of all tasks is very difficult to derive. We analyze the problem of checkpoint placement for such multiple tasks. In our strategy, the interval between checkpoints are determined for ...

Tighter Response-Times for Tasks with Offsets

We present an improvement to the analysis methods for calculating approximate response times for tasks with offsets. Our improvement calculates tighter (i.e. lower) response-times than does earlier approximation methods, and simulations show that the method, under certain conditions, calculates the exact worst-case response time. We reveal, and exploit, a misconception in previous methods conce...

A Mathematical Model for a Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Fuzzy Processing Times

This paper presents a mathematical model for a flow shop scheduling problem consisting of m machine and n jobs with fuzzy processing times that can be estimated as independent stochastic or fuzzy numbers. In the traditional flow shop scheduling problem, the typical objective is to minimize the makespan). However,, two significant criteria for each schedule in stochastic models are: expectable m...

Quasi - Synchronous Checkpointing : Models

Checkpointing algorithms are classiied as synchronous and asynchronous in the literature. In synchronous checkpointing, processes synchronize their checkpointing activities so that a globally consistent set of checkpoints is always maintained in the system. Synchronizing checkpointing activity involves message overhead and process execution may have to be suspended during the checkpointing coor...

Scheduling start time dependent tasks with deadlines and identical initial processing times on a single machine

In this paper we study the feasibility problem of scheduling a set of start time dependent tasks on a single machine with deadlines, processing rates and identical initial processing times. First, we show that the cases with arbitrary deadlines are strongly NP-complete. Second, we show that the cases with two distinct deadlines are NP-complete in the ordinary sense. Finally, we give an optimal ...
